Review
Uses Carroll's earlier book of the same title (c2001) as a departure point. The book discusses relations exclusively between the Catholic Church and the Jews, arguing that the Church has been antisemitic from the moment of its founding. The film incorporates much of that research, but expands the scope to discuss religious intolerance by all Christian denominations of all non-Christian denominations. The film also discusses modern political and social issues pertaining to religion, including intolerance towards Muslims, the influence of the evangelical movement, and separation of church and state

Summary
Author and ex-Catholic priest James Carroll "confront[s] persecution and violence in the name of God - today and in the Church's past. He discovers a terrible legacy that reverberates across the centuries: from the Emperor Constantine's vision of the cross as a sword and symbol of power, to the rise of genocidal antisemitism, to modern-day wars sparked by religious extremism"--Container
