Summary
"William Thon was born in New York in 1906. He and his wife, Helen, moved to Port Clyde, Maine in the 1940's ... Thon's grand theme was the boat. The many vessels he painted in his lifetime in Maine and on the shores of Europe make for an extraordinary fleet. Late in life as Thon's eyesight deteriorated due to macular degeneration, he moved away from color ... He ended up working almost exclusively in a rather stark palette of black, whites and grays ... He died in December, 2000, at the age of 94."
