Summary
The author, her husband and their two young sons left Maine for a two-year stint in a high-rise apartment in Beijing, prepared to embrace the inevitable onslaught of new experiences that such a move entails. Then, while in China, Susan learns she has cancer, and after undergoing treatment in Boston, she returns to Beijing - this time as a foreigner in her own body. Set against the backdrop of modern China this memoir gives insight into the trickiest questions of motherhood such as How do you talk to children about death and When is it OK to lie?--From book jacket
