The 1974 recording was part of the John Player Lecture series, the second was presented as part of a Louis Malle retrospective. Charlie Chaplin's The immigrant: In Au revoir les enfants the boys and their teachers attend a screening of The immigrant. Louis chose this particular film because "it was an evocation of freedom for those Jewish children when they see the Statue of Liberty, America being the promised land."
