Pauline lives with her sister Martha in a small town in Belgium. Pauline is childlike, a mentally retarded older adult, who can't tie her shoes, but who spends hours watering flowers in the garden. Her greatest love is her glamorously zaftig sister Paulette, a community opera diva who surrounds herself with bright colors.
